Confocus Letter Cutter
I know what you're thinking. In this increasingly paperless world, letter openers are becoming obsolete and so is the post office, but you never know what the future will bring. When the inevitable digital/tech backlash begins, perhaps writing letters on actual paper will become a retro cool thing to do again or maybe AI-enhanced private carrier pigeons will become the new postal workers to deliver them. Again, you don't know. So, open your current envelopes (if any) and be fully prepared for the classic written word to return with this cool new Confocus Letter Cutter from Takeda Design Project and designer Tatsuya Kobayashi.
This minimalist letter cutter from Japan is a sleek block of machined aluminum with a slot on top that houses a sharp blade. Just slide an envelope through the slot to slice a clean slit on only one side to eliminate scraps. Unlike opening endless boring digital emails, opening analog letters this way is simply way more satisfying... and so is deleting them afterwards with a paper shredder. When not in use, you can also leave it out on your desk as a decorative paperweight. Available in black or white finishes. βοΈ
