The quite adorable axolotl is a critically endangered amphibious salamander that is only believed to inhabit the freshwater Lake Xochimilco in southern Mexico City. They have an incredible healing ability that allows them to regenerate lost limbs and even parts of vital organs like their eyes, hearts, and brains and they are highly resistant to cancers. They are also neotenic, which means that unlike other amphibians, they do not undergo a metamorphosis into adulthood and retain their cute feathery head gills and tadpole-like bodies. They have underdeveloped lungs that help them breathe above the surface, so they mainly prefer the water. They also have a sexy mating dance, well, it is for underwater salamanders.

Did you know they also love to make tea? This cool new Relaxolotl Tea Infuser from Fred is an axolotl-shaped silicone tea infuser that can be filled with your favorite loose-leaf tea and then hung from the rim of your teacup so that it looks like it popped up from below the surface to say hello. Yes, you will look back at this whimsical aquatic creature while it's steeping in your cup and say, "Awww!" It also makes the perfect gift for any axolotl-obsessed tea lover.
