Belgian Balancing Siphon Coffee Brewer
Take your home barista skills back in time to 19th-century Belgium when you brew up a bold cup of coffee in this cool new yet quite retro-inspired Diguo Belgian Balance Syphon Coffee Maker. A Rube Goldberg machine is a complex contraption that's solely designed to perform the simplest of tasks in the most overly complicated way possible and that's sort of what we have here, except this complex contraption makes a mean cup of coffee and looks good doing it, especially while entertaining guests.
While it may look complicated to use, it's actually quite simple to operate. To begin, just add water to the stainless steel vacuum flask and screw on the lid. Next, secure the cloth filter over the head of the siphon pipette and place that end in the glass brewing flask and connect the other end to the vacuum flask. Now simply add ground coffee to the brewing flask, pull back the counter-weighted cap of the spirit burner below the vacuum flask and light the wick, and then wait. This thing is a total conversation starter, so the time should just fly by.
As the water boils, steam pressure will force hot water up through the pipette and down into the glass brewing flask. As the water transfers over, the vacuum flask will lighten, rise upwards, and then trigger the spirit burner cap to close and snuff out the flame. As the vacuum flask then cools, it creates a vacuum inside that draws the newly brewed coffee over in the glass flask back through the cloth filter, up into the pipette, and down again into the original vacuum flask where it can now be elegantly dispensed from the spigot on the side. It's a perfect example of form meets function meets slow-building excitement as you watch the wonders of physics happen right before your eyes.
Hmm, I bet reading all of that probably made absolutely no sense, so check out the videos below to see demonstrations of balancing siphon coffee makers in action. Cool, huh? βοΈ
