The Shining Overlook Hotel Handmade Diorama
If you love The Shining, haunted hotels, and decorative, detailed dioramas, then check out this cool new The Shining Overlook Hotel Diorama from Mini Fiction Town. This huge, handcrafted diorama is inspired by the infamous fictional Overlook Hotel featured in Stanley Kubrick's 1980 horror masterpiece, The Shining.
Interestingly, the exterior shots of the Overlook Hotel in the movie were based on the Timberline Lodge in Oregon yet filmed in England on a giant set, except for one aerial establishing shot of it from a helicopter. The interior shots were also filmed in England on sets based on the inside of the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite. However, the true Overlook Hotel was inspired by the Stanley Hotel in Colorado, which is where Stephen King originally got the idea for the book that the movie is based on as he spent the night in Room 217 (which was changed to 237 for the movie out of consideration for the Timberline Hotel). It's all a bit confusing.
Anyways, this impressive handmade diorama recreates the closed for the winter, snow-covered Overlook Hotel right down to the iconic hedge maze out front. It features adjustable illumination to control the lighting behind the windows and lampposts and has intricate architectural detailing that will bring a chill to your spine as you look it over. It's perfect for Halloween decorating, Christmas decorating (The Shining is sort of a wintry Christmas movie, I guess), or just leave it out all year long if you're a huge fan hoping to attract some ghosts to your home. Actual ghosts and a crazed, axe-wielding Jack Nicholson not included. Check out the videos below to watch a making of documentary and a visit to the real Timberline Hotel. REDRUM! πͺπ»π©Έπ₯Άπ¨
