Have you ever wondered where pistachios come from? Well, pistachios are the small, edible seeds inside hard, split shells from the pistachio tree (Pistacia Vera), which also happens to be related to the cashew tree. Neither of which are technically nuts. Most pistachios are produced in Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey, Syria, and the United States, are more of a drupe fruit or culinary nut than a true botanical nut (seeds in nutshells that do not open), and can reach up to 30 feet tall with yields up to 110 pounds or around 50,000 pistachios every two years. That's a lot of free pistachios for any voracious pistachio lover to enjoy. Yep, you bet you can grown your own pistachio tree.

If you live in the right outdoor climate or happen to have really tall ceilings indoors with a lot of bright sunlight, try growing your very own Pistachio Nut Tree for a somewhat continuously self-replenishing supply of them to enjoy all by yourself... or, I guess, you can share them too. If you're lucky enough to get a tree to maturity and it grows panicles of pistachios, just wait until the shells split open by themselves and then harvest and enjoy them either raw or roasted and salted. If not so lucky, you'll still get to marvel at this tall, beautiful tree with red buds and flowers.
