At first glance, the PoachPod - Silicone Egg Poacher ($10) looks like an unstable children's drinking cup, but take a closer look and you will find an ingenius cooking gadget. The PoachPod finally gives egg lovers an easy way to poach eggs. Just crack an egg into the PoachPod and float it in boiling water. You can add salt, pepper, or the spice of your choice right into the egg as it cooks. When the egg is ready, it pops right out, since the PoachPod is made from nonstick silicone. The PoachPod is truly a cool new culinary innovation. Bon appetit!  -  6 Comments Tweet This on Twitter Share on FaceBook

I've been using the poachpods quite regularly now, but think there's some room for improvement. Unless greased with (olive)oil, eggwhite does tend to stick to the pod. A bigger 'problem' is that condensed water from the boiling pan tends to collect a layer of water on the topside of poached egg. Resulting in an unevenly poached egg. But maybe I'm just not doing it right?

Hi Jan and everyone who wrote in thank you!

I wanted to answer Jan about his concerns. The Poachpods are non stick but eggs are a natural binder and stick to everything on the planet. However, by oiling your Pods and sliding a spoon around the edge of the poached egg, after poaching, the eggs come right out.

I understand about the tiny amount of water that sometimes collects over your egg. This is due to using the lid when poaching in our Pods. This does not effect the taste,by the way, since the old fashion way submerges the raw egg in water it is quite normal.

Also, the shape of your pot lid is important. Try to use one that does not have the handle attachment coming through the lid in the center. I use a welded handle and no water collects because the water rolls off the lid down to the side. The lids with a screw or something protruding in the center gives the condensation something to drip off of and into the Pods.

In any case, here is a tip to help prevent any water from collecting in your Poachpod & on top of your egg. Bring the water to a boil with the pre-oiled Pods in the water. Once the water is boiling nicely, turn down to simmer and then crack the eggs into the Pods. Cover 4-6 mins and lift out and serve.

Thank you all for the positive feedback. The success has been overwhelming.

Kind regards,
Kraigh

This product is a complete waste of money. It was given to me as a gift, and turned the quick process of poaching an egg into a palava that left me late for work and with a hard yolk. If you like a poached egg, do it the way chefs do- water and vinegar in a pot. Do not waste your time or moeny on this complete piece of junk! I know this sounds cruel and will probably be deleted by staff, but I just so disappointed in this product.
