Everyone who regularly reads the Green Head knows that I love bonfires, but I am not good at starting them so I usually cheat and just use a Starter Log or even this new cool Newspaper Log Roller.
A new option I found is the cool, er hot, Swedish FireSteel ($4). Simply run the metal blade across the magnesium alloy and it produces 3,000°C sparks which can be thrown onto a small pile of dry grass, leaves or paper to start a fire. Once your small fire is started, just keep adding small sticks and gradually increase the stick size until you get a fire at the size you need. Whether you're camping, hunting or simply at war, Swedish FireSteel could really come in handy. - ( 13 Comments )
