Earlier this month, representatives of the Hualapai Tribe stated that the Grand Canyon Resort Corporation would be constructing a glass, U-shaped walkway called the Grand Canyon Skywalk, that extends 70 feet over the edge of the Grand Canyon with a suspension of 4000 feet over the Colorado River. Along with this glass skywalk there will be a visitor's center offering meeting venues and a cafe that will feature outdoor edge patio seating. They hope to have this new attraction completed and open to the public by early 2006, but as of this writing, they have still yet to find an insurer for the project!

This "attraction" is definitely not for the timid or for those who have a fear of heights, but there may be some thrillseekers out there who are willing to brave the depths of the Grand Canyon. Would you take one step out on this thing? Let us know in the Comments below.

UPDATE: Construction has begun on the Grand Canyon Skywalk! Click Here to read the press release.

UPDATE 2: The Grand Canyon Skywalk has been unveiled and officially opens to the public March 28, 2007! Check out some pictures of reporters actually out on the skywalk walking on the glass below. Everyone who is looking for a fun little getaway, this would be an incredible thing to behold. I can't wait to actually step out over the canyon.

I would never consider it, I value my life and the love of my family too much to endanger myself. Plus I can’t stand heights. Not for me!!!!

I’m terrified of heights but I would definitely do it. I’ll be there on opening day. BTW, I don’t know who started the $75.00 for 5 minutes price tag, but it’s only $25.00 It would be the best $25.00 I’d ever spent.

Good way to get rid of my fear of heights. I’ve already tried it walking up the Eiffel Tower and I’m about half way there. This experience will definitely do it.

You go Hualapai!
