These things are more novelty than practical. I find I can roll newspapers into logs by hand quicker than I can with one of these things. Finished log is tighter and looks better, too.

You could try the dry paper logmaker from greenstamp, you can recycle more than just newspaper and it's cheaper!

our antique log roller fell apart and am loking to replace. It's wonderful for the husband to roll logs, drink his beer, and watch Sunday football games! (Good use of his time on SUndays with this device!)

i just bought a used log roller and someone told me to spray vegetable oil on the newspaper as you roll it. Not on every single one, just every once in a while. This help make the paper burn. Also use thin wire tied in the middle to hold it together. I'd appreciate any other advice or tips.

The spindle comes out the side, remove roll, reinsert spindle and roll again.*8)

I can get the newspaper log rolled and tied off, but how in the heck are you supposed to slide it off the spindle?

Kerry - my log roller has a long slit in the spindle in which to insert the end of the paper. If yours doesn't, try using a small piece of tape to stick the end to the spindle while getting it started.

Just bought a log roller at an antique store for 5 bucks...am wondering how tightly to roll it and how to get it started burning. My first effort caught fire but didn\'t burn well. The paper was dry and the fireplace was drawing properly so am wondering if the paper log was too tightly rolled...or do I need kindling as well to get it started?

I love a log roller!! I am looking for another stable good one. From one log you can burn about 30 minutes. it is called FREE HEAT.. that is just in case some of you don\'t really get what saving money is about..

just found one at an auction, can't figure out how to start the paper rolling. Wondered if there was a piece missing. Spindle through centre, and handle to crank, but how do you keep paper on the spindle to start rolling it?
