Chris, I really liked your display, especially the mini tree chases. Thought you might want to see my 2008 display using the 40 channel unit.http://www.vimeo.com/2924586The display won Best Overall in the Roswell/Georgia Power's 6th Annual Holiday Decorating Contest. The 20' Megatree has 9600 lights while the two 10' Megatrees have 4800 lights each.

Amazing Synchronized Christmas Light & Sound Device - Outdoors
Click Here to Read Full Post and Comments
I saw this product last week, and was thinking I would buy it after Christmas when it goes on sale, for next year. The price before the sale was $130.00. I found it at a discount store today for $25.00....I tried it out as soon as I got home, and I love it!!!!!!

Amazing Synchronized Christmas Light & Sound Device - Outdoors
Click Here to Read Full Post and Comments
So i bought the mr christmas and i plugged all my lights in and it looked great for about ten minutes until the fuse would blow so i decided to put in a 15 amp fuse in it and added some more lights and it looked great put the fuse still blow in fifteen minutes so i was afraid to put in a 20 amp in fear of blowing the box or starting a fire but i had no other options so i put it in and it has lasted for three days

Amazing Synchronized Christmas Light & Sound Device - Outdoors
Click Here to Read Full Post and Comments
I am wanting to do a LOR or Christmas in a box 16 channel one next year. I think last year and this year were good beginner displays but think I am getting frusterated with the lights and sounds of christmas and its limits. I want to push them, have my own songs, have the lights dim and dance etc and hook up more lights and have the FM transmitter. Anyone know anything about Christmas in a box? I am looking at this set up for $1000http://www.animatedlighting.com/products/CIAB-AIO.aspnot sure if LOR is better or the same it seems like LOR is more popular but this Christmas in a box is all ready to go for $1000 including sounds...sounds the easiest...but quality and expansion? and writing your own music and light show?? HELP!! Ideas? Thoughts?

Amazing Synchronized Christmas Light & Sound Device - Outdoors
Click Here to Read Full Post and Comments
I am not sure how many I have hooked up to the box...its just all the bushes and the pathway lights. Yes I would love ALL LED but they are so much more $$$ and shorter then most as most are 60 LED lights vs 100. Target has theirs at 30% off and I picked up 7 boxes of the 25 c9 LED lights and replaced the old style c9 lights. I will post the link at the bottom of this with everything hooked up and the LED's. It went from 1300 Watts to just 16 watts just for the LED c9's. Pretty big differnce. Thanks for the link for the fuses...Wow $5 for 2 plus shipping? I will stick to my Ebay fuses and the radio shack pack of 4 for $3 so far it is still working and no problems with the 15amp 250v. No fires yet lol. Here is the new link with the LED's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XItmA7cVZhQ

Amazing Synchronized Christmas Light & Sound Device - Outdoors
Click Here to Read Full Post and Comments
Looks great! How many do lights do you have on the GE box?I see that about half your display is static and not on the box.Using LED's you can go just crazy adding lights. There is one near my house using this box and it has 10000 LED lights on the box alone. Its really impressive.

Amazing Synchronized Christmas Light & Sound Device - Outdoors
Click Here to Read Full Post and Comments
Hey I hooked up 11,000 lights and used the lights and sounds of christmas again this year. I did blow a fuse after 2 weeks I guess some moisture got into it. I was freaking out because I had NO idea what kind of fuse to get and where to get it. After reading many posts on here and doing google research on fuses, I went on ebay and bought 100 fuses from hong kong for $11 including shipping. I am still waiting for them. In the mean time I went to Radio Shack and followed the advise of a few others on here that said you could use the 15amp 250v. Well I tried and and so far it is working and no problems. Thanks for the help as once you blow the 2 fuses you are out on your own to try and find replacements. Here is what I have so far about 2 weeks ago. I added a few more lights..bringing the total up to 11300 lights and I will try and post the new vid here soon. What do you think? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPTvGjoJSW0

Amazing Synchronized Christmas Light & Sound Device - Outdoors
Click Here to Read Full Post and Comments
Here's a little bit of comparison information......the original GE Lights and Sounds of Christmas is s still around at BJ's ans other places. I also saw te new model that uses a wireless connection to the outlets. However, that only comes with four, not six circuits like the original. But there's a new kid on th4e block; a model from Gemmy, available at least at Sam's Club for under $100. There are some nice things about the package at Sam's Club:1 - The main unit has six circuits with about the same load ratings as the GE unit. 2 - BUT, it comes with a satellite control unit that provides six more outlets and is synched to the main unit. I doubt it is six additional channels but it does double the overall load capacity.3 - And for those wanting to add an external speaker, it comes with a nice outdoor speaker. 4 - Since it has the external speaker connection, this could easily be used to drive an FM transmitter without any modifications.4 - It only has ten built-in songs, BUT.....you can plug in your own music from an MP3 player or whatever.I think this is a better second generation machine than the GE one which reduced the number of channels.

Amazing Synchronized Christmas Light & Sound Device - Outdoors
Click Here to Read Full Post and Comments
I used my Mr. Christmas for a month last year with no problems. I bought extra triacs and extra fuses after hearing some of the problems people were having. I also checked to make sure I wasn\'t overloading any of the channels. Last night everything stopped! No lights or music. I troubleshot the problem to a bad transformer. I\'ve looked everywhere for a replacement, living in a small town makes it hard to find parts. It takes a 12 volt 10W transformer. Ordering a part on-line will take a week. After ordering all the parts I could think of that died on these boxes a part that nobody else seems to have a problem with dies. Does anyone know where I might be able to find a transformer. By the way Home Depot nor Michaels is selling the Mr. Christmas this year in my area, so it looks like I may be down for a while. Oh well, I guess it\'s time to step up to LOR.

Amazing Synchronized Christmas Light & Sound Device - Outdoors
Click Here to Read Full Post and Comments
Jennifer; Below you will find a link to our last year display..We have since gotten the bug big time and have upgraded to LOR 32 channels. Our web page last year had some pics and instructions on how to do what you want. By the way, we are still using the UX555 transmitter with great results. We get a 2 block line of sight output to a car radio. Email me at my new email address at if you have any questions.http://www.quilt-pieces.com/fields_family_christmas.htm

Amazing Synchronized Christmas Light & Sound Device - Outdoors
Click Here to Read Full Post and Comments
I just bought this GE Christmas Lights and Sounds machine from Home Depot for $79.99. I have been reading these posts and wonder if I should keep this one or take it back and upgrade to the wireless version with 40 songs. I bought the wired version with 20 songs (model number 67791). I got it all set up and it seems to be working great. I just don't want to start having temperature issues as I live in Michigan and the weather is just starting to drop below freezing at night.Should I keep the one I have, buy the wirelss one, or is there a better option? Thanks

Amazing Synchronized Christmas Light & Sound Device - Outdoors
Click Here to Read Full Post and Comments
I received the Ge Lights & Sounds of Christmas as a Christmas gift last year (2007). Hooked it up today and am only getting snippets of the songs.
The small jack by the fuse holder has been addressed several times, but not explained other than to say it was for store demo. To make it more clear, it activates the system for a short sequence by means of the "push button" that is part of the display. This is where the display push button plugs in. Totally useless for you unless you want to watch it for only a minute at a time. As for inflatables, you could use them if you re-wire the inflatable so that the lighting & fan motor are powered individually. Obviously, if the power is turned on & off by the control unit without re-wireing the inflatable, it will cut the fan and start to deflate every time it cuts out. And yes, this constant on/off will prematurely burn out the fan motor. Have fun!

Amazing Synchronized Christmas Light & Sound Device - Outdoors
Click Here to Read Full Post and Comments
A 12 channel or so LOR unit with MP3 support will run you about $800 for the Christmas in a box setup.Quite a bit more than the cost of a Mr. Christmas or two.

Amazing Synchronized Christmas Light & Sound Device - Outdoors
Click Here to Read Full Post and Comments
I appreciate the input. I am already a member of Planet Christmas and have read most of the articles on Mr. Christmas.Using SSR's is fine, but if I am going to go to that much trouble, I will probably just buy a LOR unit.Chaining two boxes involves soldering 7 wires to an existing ribbon cable on both units. The free end of the 7 wires are then connected to RG45 jacks. Then a Cat-5e cable is plugged into each jack connecting the two units. I've had my units apart, and know exactly what needs to be done. I'm just solder challenged. It scares me to think I might ruin the non-standard ribbon cable setups so close to Christmas. That's why I was looking for the simpler solution. I compiled a list of the 40 songs on the Mr. C. to make it easier to find each's place in the songlist. Amazing how tough it is to "Name that song" until you've heard quite a bit, and there are many duplicate on the list (although played in different styles).Appreciate the suggestions.Richard

Amazing Synchronized Christmas Light & Sound Device - Outdoors
Click Here to Read Full Post and Comments
Richard, I suggest you goto www.planetchristmas.com and participate in the forums. Someone there can help you do 2 things.1. Increase power by adding SSR\'s2.
Because of the wattage limitation of the GE controller, I bought multiple units so I can have more lights hooked up.I know that two (or more) GE LASOC units can be synchronized by pressing the skip button on each unit until the same song is playing on each, even though they are not at the same place in the song. Then press the skip button on each unit simultaneously and they will start the next song together.Unfortunately, with the 40 song units, it is tough to step through the songs to make sure you are in the right sequence since there are many duplicate songs in the 40. Has anyone found a way to reset the unit to go back to a a base point (like Song #1 whatever that might be). Turning it off or unplugging the unit doesn't do it and each unit seems to start up at a different song after being turned off. This means I have to synchronize the units each evening. It works, but it's a pain. Any ideas?

Amazing Synchronized Christmas Light & Sound Device - Outdoors
Click Here to Read Full Post and Comments
No inflatables, leave them on, check your light strings. They list wattage and or amps per string. Each socket can handle 2 amps of power. So if you have 4 strings that run at .50 amps, 4x.50 = 2 amps, so you could stick 4 strings of lights on that one socket.Or you can look at it this way. Each socket can handle 240 watts of powerSo if you have strings that run 40 watts each, you could have 6x40 = 240 watts, maxing one socket.Hope that helps.

Amazing Synchronized Christmas Light & Sound Device - Outdoors
Click Here to Read Full Post and Comments
Hi All,This is the first time I\\\'ve checked in since last Christmas! This was a very helpful site last year! The mod for FM transmission works great! I was wondering has anyone figured out a mod for ones\\\' own music...say from an mp3 player...instead of the synth music that came with the Mr.Christmas? Also, are there any new mods for last years Mr Christmas...like getting more lights on one box etc.?Once again thanks for all the info and I look forward to what everone will be coming up with this year!John

Amazing Synchronized Christmas Light & Sound Device - Outdoors
Click Here to Read Full Post and Comments
