When I first saw this online right before it was finished, I thought "Oh hell no, I would Never go out on that !"But the idea started growing on me and now I would LOVE to walk around on that !Eventually I will visit and get out there on it.It's awesome !The bungee jump idea here made me laugh out loud, but I think I'll pass on that.:-D*Suzan B.
Just a way to get peoples money. Why pay when you can see the Canyon without going out on that thing.
Where are the Americans sense of adventure.......... pioneers crossed this country in covered wagons....... and tried to run the indians out of their home lands....and did !!! So what if this tribe came up with a fabulous and i must say quite creative way for more narrow minded people to explore this canyon that is so very GRAND...... why not take the view from the eagle point, why not let the wind blow in our hair and just take a moment to see the view that Mother Nature and Father Sky have to show off for us......... the indians , i am grateful for them sharing such a view ........ lets be open minded and experience this granduer, but be respectful to our planet and take care of it with the amount of tourist that are visiting........ i believe the Skywalk was intended for a special experience..... more spiritual i would think. All go with an open mind... The cost does need to stay within reason, as long as people do not become greedy........ Congratulations to all on their dream coming true..... Rock on Skywalk !!

Glass-Bottomed Grand Canyon Skywalk - 4000 Feet High!
Click Here to Read Full Post and Comments
the skywalk might be fun for a few tourists to go up there like a luna park , but the canyon is not supposed to be like this. we are lucky that you didn't still decide to build a grand casino on the skywalk , that could make you billionare in the next few years, ohw did i bring you up to an idea ??

Glass-Bottomed Grand Canyon Skywalk - 4000 Feet High!
Click Here to Read Full Post and Comments
hey you indians out there.. that land is not yours ..you stole it from the nature spirits and you turned yourself now into like white moneygrabbers. that makes you the same now as the western busines people. you lost your diginity now. and because you were first it doesnt mean you own it. how ridiculous ? the later western people also do not own it. the nature spirites are the owners. by making that skywalk you lost your mind. i went there but didnt enter, it feels wrong to pay for it. and you know that . but you want the money . you didnt do it for help the natural spirits, and there are other ways to help your tribe. now you better find 10 million dollar from your friends to clean up that mess, and make the grand canyon free again.like it supposed to be. skywalk should have stayed a dream only. you pissed off a lot of people . how the heck this could have happened ? this is too important to be decided by just a few poor indian people looking for bucks , the NATO should have stopped you . shame on them too. if spending 30 million dollar is the solution to find a way to pay your college you made a mistake. you let it go too far , and now we have to think how to go with the future of the canyon..maybe next time you like to paint it pink ? just because you think you own it and you try to make some bucks . go find a job ! just like anybody else .!

Glass-Bottomed Grand Canyon Skywalk - 4000 Feet High!
Click Here to Read Full Post and Comments
well, I'd consider it if I thought the entire tribe was profiting well.still feeling new native guilt i guess. Born in America. One post said the natives were lovin' all the dole...yeah right, I know from personal experience the feeling of having lost the war, ostracism, booze and weight fluctuations...its not exactly the pursuit of happiness when you don't even see on the omnipresent media a decent goal/way of being.where the profits should go?independant non-nuke energy sources,- solar, wind, sub surface temperature usage, wonder wheel?Dew collection? rain water collection? invisible hydraulic ram that could get some of that colorado water up top.decent/aesthetically appealing housingmaybe something that disappears into the land rather than a trailerNadar Kahlili has some very good ideas, fired ceramic houses, earth tube coiled and plastered houses... Recently they showed some of his U.N. tents on the PBS Wired Science show. Good Luck Hualapai, its a long haul ha ha 3.141592?

Glass-Bottomed Grand Canyon Skywalk - 4000 Feet High!
Click Here to Read Full Post and Comments
Someone clear this up for me. The skywalk is +/-4200ft above sea level. The Colorado is at 2200ft. What\\\'s this hoopla about 4000ft height? Must be Chinaman calculation by the developer/builder. Check out his other claims: a dozen or so loaded 747\\\'s.
You can stay on as long as you want however no cameras, an indian member can take your photo if you wish. all loose items stay inside the welcome building. You wear booties over your shoes. I saw one man swiffering as he walked along to keep it clean and clear. It is very sturdy and well kept. I recommend it highly!

Glass-Bottomed Grand Canyon Skywalk - 4000 Feet High!
Click Here to Read Full Post and Comments
I have done the skywalk and this is the truth:It will cost you about 150 for 2 people for a walk on the skywalk, a tour of the west rim of the canyon and an all you can eat bar-b-que.You can take all the pictures you want except you will have to give your camera up when you get to the skywalk. On the skywalk, they take a picture and sell it to you for 20 bucks. You should get there early, it is not easy as the road to the site is about 20 miles of unpaved dirt. Make sure your car is sturdy, or take a bus which will cost you more.Everyone is nice there, but the truth is that the drop just below the skywalk is not 4000 ft above the Colorado river. You can see the river from the walk, but don't let the pictures that they released fool you, they are inaccurate.Still it is a thrill, but you have to be motived enough to drag yourself and give up all that money. If so, and you are a nature lover, then you will have a good time, and you're helping the tripe also.We went to the western rim instead of the southern to do the skywalk and to save time on the commute from Las Vegas.I recommend this, but not until next year, when the facilities will be better. Sure, by then the costs will be higher, but that is expected. Have fun!

Glass-Bottomed Grand Canyon Skywalk - 4000 Feet High!
Click Here to Read Full Post and Comments
I had planned to visit the Skywalk as soon as I heard about it. I can understand the $25 to walk onto it, but then I was told that you need to purchase another "package" for $50 in addition to the Skywalk fee. And.....another $10 to get onto the reservation. So you're looking at a minimum of $85 for a 5 minute walk over The Canyon. Oh yea.... no cameras allowed to record your once in a lifetime experience. However, they'd be happy to sell you a DVD and pictures at their gift shop.I don't begrudge the tribe for earning an income form this, and I'd be willing to pay the $85 to walk the Skywalk, but I really think they should allow the public to take their own pictures if they want to.

Glass-Bottomed Grand Canyon Skywalk - 4000 Feet High!
Click Here to Read Full Post and Comments
You got to be kidding me right? I guess its a great Idea but not this puppy. I have worked over the edges of buildings in NYC 500' off the ground and that was scary enough. Imagine that things decides to snap on you? See I have had a reoccurring dream since I was little that I was going to fall into the grand canyon. I think I was falling out of a plane or something. Maybe that is to be my death spot. I'm spooked, now I can never go out west.

Glass-Bottomed Grand Canyon Skywalk - 4000 Feet High!
Click Here to Read Full Post and Comments
No, not anymore. The actual skywalk looks nothing like the art images we have been seeing throughout the internetWasn't it supposed to go out something like 75 feet? Now, latest figure is it goes out only 60 feet! They cheated us.Doesn't look nothing like the propsed images!!!!Not worth 25 bucks, maybe 5 bucks yes.

Glass-Bottomed Grand Canyon Skywalk - 4000 Feet High!
Click Here to Read Full Post and Comments
Defacing natural beauty by putting a carnival ride on it is problematic enough. What some may not be considering is that this carnival ride will attract even more millions of people to the grand canyon and inevitably destroy the Hualapai Tribe's land(look at all the damage that has been done to yosemite by tourists). I'm sure that all the Hualapai aren't happy about it. Maybe when the land (the only thing they have worth money) is destroyed and the people who advocated for the skywalk are all long gone. The grandchildrien will find a new way to solve the monetary problems of the Hualapai Tribe then.

Glass-Bottomed Grand Canyon Skywalk - 4000 Feet High!
Click Here to Read Full Post and Comments
Okay $75 per person and no cameras cause they could fall and chip glass. Everyone wears booties. 15 minutes maximum time limit. Can we all make a bet how fast the booties will scratch the glass? All you have to do is figure out how much dust lands on that thing every day and then is rubbed by booties...I would rather go to Disney

Glass-Bottomed Grand Canyon Skywalk - 4000 Feet High!
Click Here to Read Full Post and Comments
You can see the site on Google Earth at 36° 1'58.34"N and 113°49'31.81"W.
I love the Grand Canyon. It is truly one of the great natural wonders of the world and I feel everyone should see it at least once. I have been to both rims numerous times and even flown over in a helicopter.I feel the Skywalk is no more intrusive, perhaps less so, than the El Tovar Hotel, Kachina Lodge, Thunderbird Lodge and the Bright Angel Lodge; all of which are located directly on the south rim of the canyon.I see no problem with the Skywalk as long as it truly benefits ALL members of the Hualapai Tribe as intended. Unfortunately, the history concerning the white man and his "treaties" is, how shall I say, less than favorable. Even more disturbing is that some tribal leaders and representatives have adopted the white man's ways as well.Time will tell...

Glass-Bottomed Grand Canyon Skywalk - 4000 Feet High!
Click Here to Read Full Post and Comments
I've been to the Grand Canyon and like every American National Park - its a f-ing zoo! I will never go there and support this venture! I support biological preservation over silly and exploitive development but not all development.I understand that the Hualapai Indians are poor without any doubt and they need some sort of revenue, but exploiting nature for short sighted and short-term benefits is unfortunate and to me - just morally wrong. The Grand Canyon's presence outweighs any development. I do not care how they went about this to be environmentally sensitive; there is always an indirect impact and direct impact. You would think since it is on ancestral land they would respect it more but I honestly think they do not because of their decision to create this. Like most people, they favor economic development over natural habitat. I do not know why some tribes do this but they do, just how here in CA, all they do is build casinos. Yea it is on their land but that impact will seep into and around that biosphere, f-ing up habitat because of the human impact and presence. Build roads and that partitions the land disrupting wildlife and of course provides infrastructure for more development equaling more pollution and land degradation. Disposable booties required to walk on it (unless recyclable) equals even more trash than what will be inherently produced. Visitors are going to create more pollution in the Grand Canyon, making it even more difficult to see because of the haze and combination of the heat and even more unhealthy air quality. It's a f-ing carnival ride - that's all. Any argument in favor of this, I understand why but my ethics and morals are not financially and economically driven. I believe in leaving what we have left alone.(shaking my head in disgust)

Glass-Bottomed Grand Canyon Skywalk - 4000 Feet High!
Click Here to Read Full Post and Comments
You people are such whiners!!! "mar the beauty".."save the whales".."hug a tree". Screw you freaks. I'd stab a whale-with a tree-an throw em BOTH over the edge..after I ABSOLUTELY walked out on that thing. Only thing is the price-thats rough.
