The 7-Foot Upside-Down Pre-Lit Christmas Tree

The holidays may be months away, but for a cool item like this, you may need some extra time to rethink your traditions. They now make 7-Foot Upside-Down Pre-Lit Christmas Trees and it's not as crazy sounding as you think, in fact this is how it was originally done!

The History of the Upside-Down Fir Tree: According to the Christmas Archives, "In the 7th century a monk from Crediton, Devonshire, went to Germany to teach the Word of God. He did many good works there, and spent much time in Thuringia, an area which was to become the cradle of the Christmas Decoration Industry. Legend has it that he used the triangular shape of the Fir Tree to describe the Holy Trinity of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The converted people began to revere the Fir tree as God's Tree, as they had previously revered the Oak. By the 12th century it was being hung, upside-down, from ceilings at Christmastime in Central Europe, as a symbol of Christianity."

Has anyone ever even heard of this tradition before? Let us know what you think in the Comments.

We, my son and I, recently saw one in a catalog and absolutely loved it! We just got a new living room set that doesn\'t leave space for our traditional tree, so we\'re gonna get one. It has nothing to do with more presents, it\'s just different and it will work for us! No disrespect intended and no other reason behind it. It also does not reflect or change our beliefs in any way. Merry Christmas!

Well, first of all I have to say that the whole concept of representing Jesus on the cross is awesome; however, the bible talks about the tree and hanging glistening ornaments as a bad thing. So, I don't know if I will even celebrate this year. Christmas has been soooooooo misunderstood and I really don't want to be a part of that misunderstanding. If I do decide to celebrate, it will be with an upside down tree, it has more meaning.

It is a tradition that dates back to the Middle Ages in Central Europe.

It emphasized the triangular shape of the tree, meant to represent the Holy Trinity.

Seems funny that people see this as anti-religious. I thought the Christian God was supposed to be everywhere (Alpha to Omega?). I didn't know we had to point our trees right at...his planet? Heaven, which is 3 degrees to the right of Alpha Centauri?

C'mon, people, loosen up.

Well, people will read anything they want to read into anything! The Christmas tree wasn\'t around in Bethlehem anyway! The shape of the tree, the shamrock....just symbols that carry special meaning for believers, but the meaning can be different for different beliefs and some people will believe anything negative about something they don\'t understand.

This is a quanit Polish tradition and the Poles are a deeply religious people, so I doubt that they are being sacriligeous by hanging a tree upside down!

You must admit, it does permit more floor space in a small apartment....and you wouldn\'t have to move as much furniture to have a larger tree!

I've hung my (artificial) tree for several years-- it's the only way I can fit a full-size tree in my apartment. And yes, I enjoy the reaction I get from guests!

I hang my tree from a hook screwed into a ceiling joist. Get a big hook... trees are heavy!! I put a big star at the pointy end of the tree, and a big bow at the ceiling covers the hardware. Nativity set goes on a small table right next to the tree.

Friends come over, ooh and aaah, then we all go to Midnight Mass. It's just a tree, y'all!!

At first I thought it was another way to screw up the CHRISTmas tradition. I didn't know it was the original way to start with. We had all better get CHRIST back in the United Stated of America, before we turn into the divided states of this world. Please pray for the leaders of this country. No-matter who they are, that they would pray to our GOD (The word GOD is not plural) for guidance.

Dear All

If you would like to know more about the \"Monk\" who started this whole Kerfufle, there is an interesting page on St. Boniface of Crediton at:

http://www.saintpatrickdc.org/ss/0605.htm#

There you will find out how the grateful Germans repaid his kind instruction on the right way to hang a Christmas Tree - by chopping him to mincemeat with their battle axes. Nice.

Merry Christmas to you all (even Goat Boy, he obviously needs cheering up)

Actually only when hung upside down is the Christmas tree symbolic of Christ. Germanic pagans believed that the Gods wrote their truths in nature. Christians pointed out that when the Fir was hung upside down it revealed the truth of the Trinity. The two highest points represented Jehovah and the Holy Spirit. The point of the tree represented the life of Christ, on earth, and the trunk of the tree represented his ascension to heaven after that life. So when you set it upright (as is traditional in the US) the metaphor is lost and your basically creating an alter to some arcane gift guarding tree god (hence the sharp star at the tip). Merry Squidmas everyone.

TO ME, THE \"UPSIDE-DOWN\" CHRISTMAS TREE MEANS \"CHRIST CAME TO SAVE\"; THUS FROM THE EARTH(BIRTH) TO HEAVEN BY WAY OF THE \"CROSS\".

Ok smart-asses, if it represents God and the Trinity, then how come trees don't grow upside-down naturally? God created all things, and all things grow from the ground up. DUH. Why don't we all just walk around standing on our heads then? What good are feet anyway, when people like to talk out their asses instead of their heads, right? Then again, losers who just care about GIFTS forget to look at the REAL world around them, and as a result get sucked into fads just because it's "cool." Materialism seems to be reality these days.

"Ooh, aah! Look, they have a TREE hanging upside down, and get all the attention! I want attention, too :****( . . . ."

You want to know the truth about the meaning of Christmas? Screw the gifts and be thankful for all the NON-MATERIAL things you have in your life. This so-called monk just sounds like another philosopher who preached bullshit and got his answer from those who told him to shove it.

I put up an upside down tree this year and everyone kept asking \"Why?\" until they saw it, now they all want one. It actually was very pretty and you can see ALL of the ornaments. I put it in the corner of the dining room and it was really nice (my dining room walls are red). I think I will put it in front of the living room window this year.
