The 7-Foot Upside-Down Pre-Lit Christmas Tree

The holidays may be months away, but for a cool item like this, you may need some extra time to rethink your traditions. They now make 7-Foot Upside-Down Pre-Lit Christmas Trees and it's not as crazy sounding as you think, in fact this is how it was originally done!

The History of the Upside-Down Fir Tree: According to the Christmas Archives, "In the 7th century a monk from Crediton, Devonshire, went to Germany to teach the Word of God. He did many good works there, and spent much time in Thuringia, an area which was to become the cradle of the Christmas Decoration Industry. Legend has it that he used the triangular shape of the Fir Tree to describe the Holy Trinity of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The converted people began to revere the Fir tree as God's Tree, as they had previously revered the Oak. By the 12th century it was being hung, upside-down, from ceilings at Christmastime in Central Europe, as a symbol of Christianity."

Has anyone ever even heard of this tradition before? Let us know what you think in the Comments.

The tree was originally hung from the ceiling to represent Jesus on the Cross. The long bottom length was his arms which would now be on top.

Over time it just became easier to decorate a tree normally and the tradition was lost.

Upside down is actually the proper way of doing this.

It’s an interesting story to tell your family if you do decide to get one and it is increasingly getting more and more popular again. Plus I just like the look. :)

It’s is sad to think that this many people are enjoying a fad that does not make any sense. It is not the true sense of Christmas and you are making a mockery of the holiday. Children love to see their presents UNDER the tree..why take that away. And it is just plain UGLY.

Don’t be a Scrooge, it’s fun, different and frankly a little refreshing.

I think it’s rediculous…..... I know, to be different, I’ll hang my tree upside down and put a strobe light on it! What can I put on the top, which is now the bottom?...Maybe a boot, or just to be even dumber, maybe a jack-o-lantern. What holiday is this anyway? Merry CHRISTmas!

Maybe you just don’t put a star or angel on top. I don’t think anyone will notice its missing when the tree is completely inverted anyways. lol. So cool!

To each his own- I think it’s funny and it will go down in history as the “mullet” of Christmas trees, but in the mean time everyone should lighten-up and enjoy the holidays.

My Iowa cousin and her husband (now living in Georgia) have hung their Christmas tree upside down for more than 20 years. They have hooks in the ceiling and decorate the tree with lights and ornaments leaving the entire floor space free for lots of gifts!
