Cork is such an amazing natural renewable resource that can made it many more things than just, well, corks. Approximately 50% of the world's cork is produced in Portugal from the bark of the Cork Oak Trees. This thick bark is regularly harvested every 9-12 years and is actually good for the overall health of the tree, which tend to live up to 200 years old! It's not only a sustainable material, it's also water-resistant, anti-allergenic, shock and fire resistant, naturally repels insects, is mildew, rot, and mold resistant and absorbs sounds - it's the perfect flooring! It also makes a really cool new Cork Umbrella.
Designer Sandra Correia has re-imagined the umbrella by replacing the typical fabric dome with eco-friendly and water-resistant cork instead. It features cotton lining under the dome, a metal frame, and a wooden handle. Just like the cork, each one of these unique umbrellas are made in Portugal.
