My cat Nyla recently had a checkup and the vetrinarian said she needed to lose some weight ASAP or be at risk of becoming a full-blown giant raccoon! Well this is the 21st century and there are some interesting automated feeding systems for dealing with fat cats like this. This is the one I kind of like best.

The cool new LeBistro - Automatic Portion Control Pet Feeder is a programmable electronic pet feeder that dispenses chow up to three times daily for better health and weight. It holds around 4.5 lbs of the dry stuff and can be set to dispense portions from 1/4 cup to 2 cups at a time when you specify. My cat will probably just try to eat the entire unit whole. This is also a great solution if you want to get away for a weekend.

That's a good price, too! The ones at the stores that have automatic pop up lids go for around double that.

I love this cat bowl, my cat does not wake me up at 6am to mooch food anymore. She sits beside the dish for about a half hour before the food is scheduled to be dispensed like a vulture and mooches from the machine. I have not had any trouble with it malfunctioning and it has a low battery sensor so I am not worried about those running out and not knowing about it. I have had this dish for about 8 months and they still havent run out. I think that this product would be great for pets who have weight issues because the dish controlls the portion decreasing the risk of overfeeding. The only drawback would be in a multicat household where one cat might hog all the food. Perhaps one dish per cat may solve this??
