The Cat Genie - Automatic Flushing Litter Box is quite simply the coolest litter box ever! It's self-flushing, self-washing and well, I can't even describe it, except that it is way better than my toilet in every way and eliminates the need to scoop, clean, and dispose of messy cat litter ever again. Watch the demonstration video playing below and let us know in the Comments if your cat is spoiled & pampered enough for a litter box of this magnitude!

I have had the cat Genie for about a year and a half and I have never smelled any cat waste. I only have one cat and originally ran the unit 2 times a day. About 6 months ago I switched to once a day and I have no odor issues. Before when I had a traditional litter box I could smell it the moment I walked in the door... now I smell nothing.

From most all of these comments, it sounds like the Cat Genie\'s positive attributes far outweigh any drawbacks, so I\'d like to try it. I have one big problem/question though, that might make the Genie not work so well for me... I have a largish male cat who, although he has been neutered, has a habit of standing up and \"spray peeing\" on the back wall of my current hooded regular litter box that uses pine litter. So, I have this method that I have to tape the cat pan liner up high in the back so that he pees on the plastic liner and not on the back of the litter box hood. That saves me some extra cleaning, but is time consuming and not environmentally friendly. Since it looks like the Cat Genie only \"washes\" the litter bowl part and the scoop thing looks like it is open in the back - even if I get the Genie hood attachment, I\'m afraid it looks as though my boy cat who stands up when peeing will spray all over the area that does not necessarily get washed every time. Is that correct and does anyone who currently has the genie have a cat with this issue or have any suggestions about whether or not this would cause a problem or how to get around it? Thanks!

I've had a catgenie since October 2007. Overall, the device is worth the money. I have it hooked up in the laundry room where it flushes into the stack pipe used by the washing machine. Both of my cats (one 10lb and one 15lb) use it without issue. I do not have the dome as I thought it would be too enclosed for my larger cat.

All this greatness does come with challenges. Many people talk about the smaller bits of poo that can remain after a cycle and they do smell pretty bad during the drying cycle. But it only happens every so often.

The litter goes EVERYWHERE. If you install this in your bathroom, buy the hood and be prepared to sweep your bathroom daily. The nice part is you can sweep the litter back into the catgenie. I'm still trying to engineer a way to enclose the catgenie so that the litter that comes out of the box is contained. Catgenie sells these mats now which help, but litter is still all over my laundry room.

You need to clean the catgenie every 4 to 6 months. When you take it apart, it can be quite disgusting. Wear gloves and I use a spray bottle of a little bleach and hot water. Some times I have to clean the water sensor inbetween cleanings as it can get dirty and cause the unit to fail. I've also noticed that the catgenie seems to "eat" the litter and large quantities end up inside the appliance. That litter causes you to "top off the litter" more often than I think I should.

Keep extra cleaning supplies on hand and order them from amazon.com. For some reason, catgenie is not able to ship products same day. It takes them two days to ship an order whereas amazon.com ships same day and products are usually a buck cheaper.

Bottom line, the little bit of maintenance that comes with the catgenie is FAR BETTER than what I had to do with a standard litter box. Well worth the cash.

Oh - and if you have a dog that likes to eat poop, find a way to keep them out of the room where the cat genie is. When they eat the poop, they eat the litter which costs $$$.

Very innovative. However, shows lack of focus on our environment. Another way to waste precious water. We have waterless toilets, composting toilets, toilets that use waste water from the bathroom sink, bath tub etc. The amount of water required by this product may be small but multiply by millions of cats - there you have it.

It\'s also not just what it costs to purchase the product but what it costs you to use it - the expense of continuously reordering parts or supplies necessary for the operation of the product.

Also, it\'s a fact that it is very unsanitary to flush a \"human\" toilet with the lid up. An improvement on this product would be an automatic cover during flushing to prevent toxic cat germs from swirling around our bathrooms contaminating everything.

There also seems to be a debate as to whether or not cat feces in our sewage is detrimental to the environment. I do not have enough factual information in that area to make a logical decision. I would rather err on the side of caution than caste fate to the wind only to find out I was wrong and inflicted even more negative impact on our already environment.

Littermaid seems the most sanitary, ecological and cost-effective solution to cat waste disposal mechanisms. A little creativeness will enable one to \"go a whole month\" without having to give the cat box attention. Place the litterbox up on a raised surface, leaving the opening to the waste receptacle over a container lined with a plastic grocery bag (I would double it) or trash bag. Transforming an old wooden side table by cutting an opening in it to go underneath the waste receptacle is practicle and \"easy on the eyes\". If you don\'t mind the expense there are products designed especially for this that have a very professional appearance. I place my litterboxes out of eyesight from visitors anyway - no one knows where the litterboxes are since they\'re so efficient they do not smell.

This is not to specifically promote LitterMaid over another product as I also use \'manual\' litterboxes as well since I have so many cats. If I find a litterbox that is more (or just as) cost effective and \"green\" I will give that product a spin.

I\'ve seen people who place their litterbox in a spare shower or bathtub. This helps cut down on tracking & simplifies cleaning and sanitation.

My daughter has a cat and NO litter box, cat toilet - whatever. He sits at the door, just like a dog, to signal that it\'s time for a nature break and doesn\'t soil the house if left there all day while they\'re at work. THAT\'s the easiest, least expensive & most ecological of ANY product on the market but still has it\'s drawbacks as the soil around your home gets contaminated with all these \"things\" aforementioned.

Don't buy this. It's a piece of crap and it doesn't work regularly for an extended amount of time. When it does break (and it will) you have to put your arm into cat poop soup to clean it which is I can truely attest to the most disgusting foul smelling experience of my entire life. There are mixed reviews that range from it's great to horrible. Wanna know why! There are people that work for the company and all they are required to do is write good things about Cat Genie all over the internet. Sure there are awful reviews and then there are the to good to be true reviews and that's because they are. It's a marketing stadegy and the more people there are that fall for it the richer they get. Like I said this product sucks and all of them break. I will take the 30 seconds to clean my litter box rather than stick my hand in liquid cat poop ever again. Don't learn the hard way this is a rip off!

Let me tell you, I do not work for the company and I LOVE mine. I have had it for almost 2 years at this point and I have had very few issues. This unit comes as close to perfect as a no maintenance litter box can.

The person above me said that all the positive reviews are fake and from people that work for the company... well then how about the 127 reviews on Amazon... with a 4 star Average?

We have three cats. One male stands up to pee. I used bees wax to seal the dome to the bottom to prevent over flows. It is working so far. We still have a problem of them tracking the plastic litter out of the box.

I just bought a week ago from costco.com. I made the mistake (which the directions warn you about) of letting my cat watch as I turned on a cleaning cycle (it hadn't been used yet but I was curious). Anyway, it scared my cat away for a few days but I kept his old litter box close the new one and didn't clean it so he'd be inclined to use the new cleaner litter box. After I took the old one away when I couldn't stand the smell anymore he finally used the new one. Really, what this cat genie is about is spoiling people, I NEVER have to scoop litter again! The worst part of having an indoor cat is now gone! Its only been a week, but so far I highly recommend this product. My only concern is that it might not last very long but with costco's 100% satisfaction guarantee I can take it back if it breaks.

Catgenie just updated the unit. They have 2 \"fixes\" that so far seem to work great. First you can get spacer disks for the bottom of the bowl. They do not look like they will do much, but they greatly reduce the granules that make it into the hopper. In the past when I would wash my unit I would find hundreds of granules in the hopper and had some clog issues. After using the spacer for about a month I checked and there were no granules in the hopper at all.

The second change is for laundry set up. They recommended removing the J shaped end to the hose and running the hose directly into the drain. This will help prevent clogs in the line.

I also found out on the new units they changed the design of the impeller (the part that breaks up the cat poo). I was on the phone with customer service because my scoop broke (as a result of me putting too many granules in!)

I asked if there were any other improvements and they told me about the new impeller. I asked how much it would cost... they said they would send it to me free! They sent the entire impeller unit. I was shocked. I just set it up last night. It is a bit louder then the old one... it kind of sounds like a penny is caught in your old one, but they say it works much better. I think they should put a warning sticker on the unit that lets you know this... I called customer service because I was afraid something was broken, but they said that sound is normal.

I think these 3 little fixes will boost the reliability of the unit. I still love the unit, but I think they needed to create the fixes to make the unit more care free.

Now if they would only come up with a way to know how many washes you have left before the solution runs out! I hate the beep system.

To the person giving the article backing up the Otters and not using this product, if you actually completely read the article it states \"Cat litter is one source of T. gondii, which survives sewage treatment and ends up in the ocean\"

The problem is with the CAT LITTER, not the CATE WASTE. So the problem with your argument is that this product does not use the type of litter that litter boxes use and therefore does not fall under the argument for not using it because of the otters.

I will not pay the high cost of this machine to run a halfway job!

Listen people, go to the store, buy some brown paper lunch bags (biodegradable)open bag, place in small empty bathroom garbage can, place litter box in spare bathroom or a place you enter daily and it takes you 2 min to scoop the poop in the brown bag. Place another empty brown bag in that garbage can before you leave and that saves you time on your next visit.

I have no smell and one cat who poops enough for 3 cats! My total cost is $6.00 a month. If I had the money I would buy that robot one but since I don't have the $300.00 spare to spend on it, I'll stick with $6.00 and a a few minutes of time a day.

When something that works comes on the market under $100.00 I'll give it some serious thought.

In the mean time I'll let you all do the playtesting with your hard earned income.

I've owned this litter box for over 1 year now.
Haven't had any problem with it yet.
I have two cats. One will use it, one will not.
He's petrified of it! Once he seen it work, that was the end! We have ours in the bathroom, since there is no space for this in the laundry room.

The only "bad" part is the smell!
We still try to scoop the poop out before it cleans because the smell of it liquifying the poop fills my whole house up. My hubby calls it "poop smoothy". I like this box because if we go on vacation, I know the box is being cleaned for sure (not counting on the person feeding the cats to tell the truth).

I think this box would work better for a kitten growing into it. My cats were 2 and 3 years old and like I said, one will use it and one just won't.

Leave the litter behind and train your cat to use a real toilet. I have seen this before but now that I have two kittens @ 4 months old I am seriously considering using this method. Right now I am changing litter every week and have to keep a couple 40lb bags on hand so I do not run out. My kittens are medium hair and a shorthair. The medium hair one especially smells like litter after she is done from the dust getting in her fur. http://www.petsdo.com/blog/how-toilet-train-your-cat
The description of this method is so thorough on the site you may not even have to buy the product, just print the info and collect the materials needed.
