Remember that awesome Christmas Lights Gone Wild video from last year? The homeowner spent nearly two months and $10,000 to hook up and synchronize 25,000 lights to Trans-Siberian Orchestra's "Wizard in Winter" - Source: Snopes. Well here at Green Head HEADquarters I don't have that kind of money nor the time, so I found the next best thing.

If you want to inexpensively synchronize your holiday lights to match the rhythm and music of 20 Christmas carols you need to get the cool and easy to setup Mr. Christmas - Lights and Sounds of Christmas. It's basically a small electronic device with six power outlets and a speaker that you can either stake into the ground or mount on the side of your home. Simply plug your light strands and assorted light-up decorations into the power outlets, select the music you want to play or set it to random and watch in sheer awe as your house begins to animate in a full blown holiday extravaganza of dancing lights and music! I'm sure your neighbors will absolutely love it as well.

JB....I thought of that but the problem is this: Wifey and I had the box and speaker on when we set the lights up so we could stand back and listen....made it easier to make up our minds if we had the lights and sound going the way we wanted..about my connections: I installed a RCA jack ( Radio Shack part number 274-346 4 of them for under 5 bucks) in the bottom of the case ) I used this jack since my oiginal FM transmitter used the same type. I soldered one wire to the negative terminal of the speaker and ran it to the outter tab of the jack and the wire coming from the positive side of the speaker to the center post of the jack. The audio input jack of the UX555 uses a 1/8 audio jack like headphones use..no prob..I just cut both cords in half stripped off the insulation and soldered braid to braid and white to white, both reds to red..piece of cake..I will have pics posted on webpage. BTW..the UX555 has great range!!

I have the GE unit and based on calculations went out and bought LED lights. You can have (10) 100 light strings of LEDS vs. (1) 100 light string of regular mini lights. I did this since the GE unit limits you to 240W per outlet. I just ordered the FM transmitter based on info from this site and can't wait to hook it up. I already have some ideas about rearranging lights and combining zones to add another zone. I see myself ordering a 32 zone system for next year. Definately addictive.

Still learning a new cam-corder so not the best video but here's a little of mine. Sound is via fm radio held up near can-corder mic. Passing cars are extra fill.

I just purchased the Mr. Christmas today; has anyone figured out a way to add your own music to the system instead of the music that comes with the unit.

Rich....gotta agree about the LEDS...seriously thinking about getting some myself but being the cheap guy I am, I'll wait until after Christmas when they go on sale...for now sticking with the minis. And yes, it is definately addictive! Which transmitter did you get?

Have the GE Lights and Sounds, did the FM trnsmitter mod with the UX555. When we first hooked it up we had great reception and range... now that it's colder and had some wind/rain/snow/ice the signal seems to drift and/or the range is much less. Have the transmitter in a tupperwear box and sits up off the ground so it's protected. Has anyone else run into similar problems, and if so, what did/would you do to slove it. Any sugestions? my husband wants to "bag" the whole thing he's so frustrated. ~ Andrena (Canton, OH)

Learning curves! Sometimes you just have to take a step back to see things clearly. What is it they say? "So close to the forest you can't see the trees." Electronic equipment HATES cold...DUH =) !!! Also, try raising the transmitter as high as possible. Greg (who posted the original link to the UX555) said he uses a Pelekin box to protect his transmitter... much more weather proof than tupperwear! Also seal everything up as tightly as possible so no moisture can get in.
Here's what we ended up doing:
1) Elevated the transmitter. We used a piece of PVC pipe hammered into the ground and an 11ft. extending pole (the one we use to hang the lights). Made a platform for it using a plastic plate. Added a 20ft. mini-plug extension (Wal-Mart - $5)
2) Insulated the transmitter and added a heat source. We used a neophrene can insulator and disposable hand warmer packets. Put everythng back in the tupperwear and sealed it tightly. Now we can bring everything in overnight.
Solved!

I have used the spare 125V 3 AMP fuses that came with my Costco Lights and Sounds of Christmas. I can not find replacement fuses. Has anyone found replacement fuses on the net? Help appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Can I use a 1440 watt capacity remote controlled timer with this unit? My box is protected on the porch and easy to get to, but on cold days it would be nice to just hit the remote to turn unit on and off. The timer in question is a GE wireless outdoor outlet receiver with a preset channel. Also, I keep going over the wattage of my lights, 13, 10' strands of 61.2 watts each strand and about 6 extra strands of 150' lights. I calculate way lower than the 1440 watts but wanted to get some opinions on what this might do or what might happen with one single timer. Thanks

Edie... We have our's set on a remote and have no problem. One trick that has helped us is to turn on the heaviest load first. For us we have 3 remotes. We turn on the Mr. Christmas first, then the static lights, then the inflatables. Also we found that you can use a 15amp/250volt fuse instead of the 12amp/125volt that it comes with. The "amp" rating is the important one, obviously don't use a 15 amp fuse in place of a 3 amp one, but exchanging a 15 for a 12 shouldn't do any harm. The "watch out" her is make sure yout breaker is set up to handle the load, otherwise you'll keep tripping the box. We have it plugged into a 20amp dedicated GFCI, so no worries here A timer shoud be fine as well, just make sure it's one of the heavy duty outdoor timers.
Let us know if you have any more questions, still working out all the bugs ourselves, maybe we can learn from eachother! dwallace22@neo.rr.com

My wife suprised me with a Lights and Sounds yesterday. I did a quick test in the house to get an idea of the flashing sequences and it worked perfect. I installed my lights today and when I turned it on the music was super fast. I turn it on and off a few times and still in super fast mode. I see some others have had this problem anybody figure out why it does it?

Anyone found out why when you turn this on it sometimes goes into hyper mode? I've seen others mention this. I returned one unit yesterday and the new unit does the same thing? Anyone? Any ideas why? Please E-mail me if you have an answer. If I turn it on and off a few time it will play right. Really has me scratching my head?
