Remember that awesome Christmas Lights Gone Wild video from last year? The homeowner spent nearly two months and $10,000 to hook up and synchronize 25,000 lights to Trans-Siberian Orchestra's "Wizard in Winter" - Source: Snopes. Well here at Green Head HEADquarters I don't have that kind of money nor the time, so I found the next best thing.

If you want to inexpensively synchronize your holiday lights to match the rhythm and music of 20 Christmas carols you need to get the cool and easy to setup Mr. Christmas - Lights and Sounds of Christmas. It's basically a small electronic device with six power outlets and a speaker that you can either stake into the ground or mount on the side of your home. Simply plug your light strands and assorted light-up decorations into the power outlets, select the music you want to play or set it to random and watch in sheer awe as your house begins to animate in a full blown holiday extravaganza of dancing lights and music! I'm sure your neighbors will absolutely love it as well.

Does anyone know what the difference is between the Costco version and the other store versions (aside from the 11-foot extensions)? Does the Costco one have other functions or capabilities?
Thanks,

Does anyone know how to put 2 of these units together? I am afraid I may have more than 1440 watts of lights. (I dont have all my old boxes so I can figure out my total wattage) Thanks and Happy Holidays.

Try this, connect the two to the same power source, so they come on and go off at the same times. One would thing that once you get the music timed, it would stay that way. I use a photo cell timer, got it from Wal-mart. Worth a shot

the costco mr christmas has 40 pre recorded songs and the 11ft extensions. Other then that its pretty much the same unit.

Now for my question, Does anyone know if it is possible to sync 2 mr. christmas so they play the same music at the same time the reason I am asking is I have a butt load of lights and I can only hook up so many to one mr. christmas so I bought 2 and now have to come up with a way to sync them together. Any help or idea would be great. you can reach me via email if you can help.. email is keith.krueger@spcorp.com

Thanks again

I’m not an expert but I don’t think it’s possible. This is where you start reaching the need of a programmable system like LOR or D Light. I think even if you could somehow sync, the box randomly picks the start song when it’s turned on. The sequencing is only done for 6 channels too so I’m thinking that the best you might do (guessing with a lot of work and more electronics of some sort) is to get 2 channels in parallel.

I’m also guessing that even if you could get them to start exactly at the same time, on the same song, and rotate through the songs in the same order it wouldn’t be long before they\'d drift out of sync simply due to differences in the tolerance of the components – just a very, very slight difference in some oscillator frequency between the 2 units….

I’m probably near or just over the load limit. I have static lights to augment - no dark time between tunes. This box is great for what it was meant to do. I like it!

I bought the GE lights and sounds of christmas at lowes yesterday. Ive figured out there are may different configurations that you can put in. Im now all set up with changing colors and everything. I am probably way over the wattage limit but it still works and is a great show.
Chris hearns lives down the street and he admits that it looks just as good as his light o rama with 32 channels. To see his display go to
www.hearns christmas .com I will video mine and post mine on youtube.

Had rain today the box woks but my GFCI is blowing because everything is soaked. I will cover everything agive it another go.

I will post annother comment when my video is online.

Okay..the FM transmitter from Carl's was okay BUT it would not hold a set frequency. So....we have another one arriving today...a PLL unit which won't wander..If you are planning to add FM to your unit, PLL is the only way to go..Many thanks to Grag for posting the link to Hobbytron (read his message above....) Super folks to deal with.. I will have our webpage up soon with a video also....

I have been messing with my lights today. The rain soaked all plugs and extension cords the box is waterproof but the circuit i had it hooked up to with a GFCI. the water would only let it run for a second. then i moved it to a plug without a GFCI after messing with everythig for 4 hours in the rain(it shouldnt be raining in michigan right now but we are getting 2-4 inches of snow tonight).

Is it safe to have this hooked up on a circuit without a GFCI in the rain because it doesnt blow the breaker?

can you take the wire going to the speaker box and somehow convert it to an audio out connection to plug into the audio in on the fm transmitter?
