Remember that awesome Christmas Lights Gone Wild video from last year? The homeowner spent nearly two months and $10,000 to hook up and synchronize 25,000 lights to Trans-Siberian Orchestra's "Wizard in Winter" - Source: Snopes. Well here at Green Head HEADquarters I don't have that kind of money nor the time, so I found the next best thing.

If you want to inexpensively synchronize your holiday lights to match the rhythm and music of 20 Christmas carols you need to get the cool and easy to setup Mr. Christmas - Lights and Sounds of Christmas. It's basically a small electronic device with six power outlets and a speaker that you can either stake into the ground or mount on the side of your home. Simply plug your light strands and assorted light-up decorations into the power outlets, select the music you want to play or set it to random and watch in sheer awe as your house begins to animate in a full blown holiday extravaganza of dancing lights and music! I'm sure your neighbors will absolutely love it as well.

Just added FM transmitter capabilities to my $75.00 GE 'deluxe' light and music controller that I bought from Costco last week. I simply opened up the unit and added a shielded wire that I soldered to the speaker terminals. I ran this shielded cable to a $50 PLL FM mini transmitter that seems to work perfect!!!!!

Although this unit is only as 6 channel unit, it seems to rock!!

In the past few weeks, I have bought a least 5 lets each of yellow, red, blue, green, orange and purple led christmas light sets. The main cost has been the cost of the lights NOT the hardware. Now just waiting for the day after thanksgiving to set up my display. Rockin and Rollin in Highlands Ranch Colorado. --Greg--

Greg, what does the "PLL" stand for in your post above concerning the FM transmitter. I am trying to figure out if I can find one locally before ordering one on-line. Thanks, Roger

Just wanted to add a comment on how easy it was to add FM transmitter cababilities to my Costco GE Deluxe light and sound controller. I bought my FM transmitter from www.hobbytron.com it is UX-555 which costs $49.95 plus shipping.

Anyways, I opened the machine carefully and soldered a shielded cable to the speaker terminals. (Remember to solder the 'braid' or ground wire to the speaker lead marked negative) and the other TWO wires together to the other speaker terminal. This way you can still have audio from the machine and both left and right audio are soldered together and ready to go to your FM transmitter. Since this is a STEREO transmitter, you have to solder the TWO wires to the other speaker terminal. This way, the SAME sound will come out of BOTH right and left stereo speakers when people are driving by in their cars.

hey help me out guys....i found this mr christmas online at costco.com...my only problem is ....im not sure if it is 6 or 2 channels....i dont know if the two 11ft extended outlets just plug into the 2 plugs on the box (therefor making it 2 channel....or if they(the two 11ft plugs) go directly into the box and it is in fact 6 channel...As soon as possible would be great...here is the web site in costco (http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11237877)
or just search for it on costco.com....thanks again for the help
PS how did you weather proof the fm transmitter(the one with the microphone) thanks agiain

The unit at CostCo is a 6 channel. If you buy it from the store it is about $9.00 less. If you will hook 6 strands of lights to it and watch it for a bit, you can see which channel lights the most, or least... that helped me decide how to wire the lights. Sorry can't help with the FM part, yet. Would like to hear from someone working on reprograming the music tho

Here is a \"how-to\" for the fm transmitter mod that someone made that I found on another site. It\'s pretty straightforward with pictures to help. I haven\'t done mine yet, but plan to with this tutorial. Take note that this tutorial is for last year\'s model, but I don\'t imagine that the one for this year will be much different.

Special thanks to Sandy from the planetchristmas site for putting together the tutorial! Also, if you haven\'t checked out planetchristmas yet, you definitely should!

UHMM. If you live in a subdivisons trust me, your neighbors are going to hate you in the end. The traffic is aweful and cars will drive up on your neighbors lawns to park to get a better view of your "music light show". Is it worth it?

By Guest - 2 Years Ago
first attempt : )
just picked up the mr christmas unit at kmart for 74.99 love it!! i had planned on running sylvania LED lights with 50,000 hour life on it BUT i hooked them up for a test run and they dont go out all the way between flashs..(keep a dim glow in the bulbs) i picked up some cheaper LED lights with 25,000 life and they go out all the way between flashs but are much dimmer. anybody else have this problem?? thanks.

I performed the easier connections where you connect straight to the speaker terminals. However I connected an input jack to the speakers and cut a small hole in the case. Now I can connect and disconnect my FM transmitter from the unit and use the transmitter for things other than this throughout the year.

After buying one last month, I can't wait. I have some of my lights up and plugged; have done test runs. I like the results. I can already see someone's going to have to come up with a way to 'boot' more channels into this thing. I'm already running out of room.....
