The 7-Foot Upside-Down Pre-Lit Christmas Tree

The holidays may be months away, but for a cool item like this, you may need some extra time to rethink your traditions. They now make 7-Foot Upside-Down Pre-Lit Christmas Trees and it's not as crazy sounding as you think, in fact this is how it was originally done!

The History of the Upside-Down Fir Tree: According to the Christmas Archives, "In the 7th century a monk from Crediton, Devonshire, went to Germany to teach the Word of God. He did many good works there, and spent much time in Thuringia, an area which was to become the cradle of the Christmas Decoration Industry. Legend has it that he used the triangular shape of the Fir Tree to describe the Holy Trinity of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The converted people began to revere the Fir tree as God's Tree, as they had previously revered the Oak. By the 12th century it was being hung, upside-down, from ceilings at Christmastime in Central Europe, as a symbol of Christianity."

Years ago, when one of our daughters was away from home for Christmas, we chose to hang our tree upside down from the ceiling to show that ‘everyone was NOT home for Christmas’.
It turned our ‘empty spot’ into a fun memory.
This year, another daughter will be away from home for the holiday and we are considering marking the occasion with another…. upside down Christmas tree.

I’ve been looking for an upside down tree like this since I saw one in a Christmas shop several years ago.My hsband finally put one together for me this year. With a new kitten in the house and 3 grandchildren- it will be perfect. I put blue lights, snowflakes and icicles on it and it is gorgeous. I’m glad to hear it has a nice history too. It may be a new tradition in our family. Gail, Tallahassee, Fl.

I think its a dumb idea, who cares on how many more presents will fit under the tree…. its a time to be together.
Safer around small children- I’m sorry but little kids will find a way to hurt themselves.
Ornaments stand out and are much safer- yeah ok if some little kid stands under it and it happens to fall, could knock him out or have broken glass in his head.
A conversation starter- Man, are you dumb?
It takes up less space- traditionally its supposed to be in front of the window- keep it there.
your cat will think twice- I highly doubt that.

and the reason an angel sits on top of the tree is that, god was having a terrible, horrible day and an angel came to god and asked what do you want me to do with these chrismas trees? hmmmm

On more serious notes. I have heard this same story as I do my studies on the same exact topic. I also did a little study last year also. It is very interesting.
