I found the following CNN Money Article very interesting:

Why drink bottled water?
"...water costs the same as soda and three times as much as the gas... Packaging and shipping water consumes energy and contributes to global warming. Empty bottles add to litter and solid waste. And, as a rule, bottled water is no safer or healthier than the H2O that flows from municipal water systems." - Source

If municipal water is essentially the same product as bottled water and is just as clean, healthy, safe and refreshing, then why are we drinking expensive bottled water? Well, here's a couple of reasons off the top of my head. First, it's trendy, cool and for some reason a status symbol based on what brand you drink. Second, we are likely just mis-informed about the water and pretty stupid. Third, most likely a little of both. So, if bottled water is the same as the municipal supply and the packaging, shipping and endless refuse is harming the environment and we're completely wasting our money, then wouldn't it be just as trendy and cool to do the opposite? Throw out your bottled water (er, recycle it), because I found the next big thing...

Sigg Switzerland - Aluminum Water Bottles ($20) are lightweight, leakproof, re-usable, aluminum water bottles with an interior lining that is 100% effective against leaching and combats residue build-up so they are easy to keep clean. These unique bottles save you money, are stylish and functional, eco-friendly and of course will keep you properly hydrated. What's really cool is that they come in many, many different styles & designs and have different caps based on intended use. So, stop adding to the nearly 30 million plastic bottles thrown into landfills each day, because bottled water is really on its way out and these cool new aluminum bottles are in!  -  ( 3 Comments )

I totally agree! Paying this much for water is ridiculous and all the waste all these plastic bottles make is absurd. The designer water bottle is a great idea.

I agree also. Plus, the metal tends to keep the water cooler, as well as it being in a dark space.

There are over 2.5 Million water bottles thrown away EVERY HOUR! According to the Container Recycling Institute, less than 15% of plastic water bottles used in the U.S. are actually recycled. Most wind up in landfills where they can take up to 1,000 years to biodegrade. Why not own a stylish, rugged, environmentally safe water bottle that you can re-use indefinitely?

Plastic water bottles are potentially unsafe from BPA's, expensive, and extremely wasteful. Aluminum and stainless steel water bottles are the smart way to go. There's some cool new ones on our website from "Earthlust" that are affordable, 100% recyclable, and most importantly, indefinitely reusable!
